CyberBuddy -- A freeware utility program that uses microsoft agents. It provides instant messaging with speech and animation, reminders, time of day, check email, news reports, text reading and ICQ status reporting.
PhoneFree.com -- Install the free software and use the service to place PC-To-PC calls to users anywhere in the world. Enhanced communications features built into your own personal communications center. Their voice mail service is similar to traditional voice mail services, in that you can send and receive voice messages. However, they are different because you can accompany your voice message with a text message and/or a file from your computer (like a word document, or an excel file). And it's extremely easy to use.
IC-Crypt -- The world's first ICQ encryption system and it's free!
Odigo -- Odigo is serious competition for ICQ. You can locate people by interests, see who is at the same page/site you are, see what pages are hot right now, find the most popular sites by topic, talk to other odigo users, stay in touch with your friends, make new friends, post notes, URL and file transfers and more. Sounds like a lot of stuff for a little tool.
AnalogX SayIt 2.0 -- Allows you to type in any word or phrase and it says it (via speech synthesis) into a WAV file
SpreadMsg Lite 4.04 -- Captures values and/or cell contents in real time from your workbook or spreadsheet application, and turns them into wireless messages to pagers, PCS/GSM Phones, PDA's, Email, etc.
Paltalk -- This is a cool and free audio and text chat program that lets you make unlimited free calls worldwide. Paltalk offers the best sound quality of any free telephony program we've tried. Lots of FAQ help to get you up and running quickly.
ICQ (I Seek You) -- This is what we use. You have instant chat and messages, send files and URLs to your friends. Great communcation device!
Yahoo! Messenger -- It keeps track of al your portfolios with a stock ticker, shows you the score of the latest games with a sports ticker, and keeps you up to date with the top news stories of the day with a headline ticker. All of that is in addition to its main function: keeping you in touch with all of your online buddies! Also includes a voice chat feature.
AOL Instant Messenger -- AOL's free instant messenger is called AIM (for AOL Instant Messenger) and it's a useful tool but it can be difficult to come up with an unused log-on name. Be patient, keep trying, it's worth it.
MSN messenger -- Not my personal favorite, but nevertheless a very popular and free IM client.
Eyeball Chat -- Eyeball Networks software and services enable real-time, high-quality Internet video communications from any desktop.
Trillian --They have a "Pro" shareware version, but there's still a freeware version available too. Here's what they say about it: "Connect to ICQ®, AIM®, MSN® Messenger, Yahoo!® Messenger and IRC in a single, sleek and slim interface. Trillian .74 is completely free, with no use limits, no spyware and no ads. 5 Million downloads can't be wrong!"
Easy Message -- An IM client that works with your existing accounts for Yahoo Messenger, AIM, ICQ and MSN (all, or any combination) and does it simultaneously! It doesn't access all the features of each service, but it also doesn't access the ads! Very cool and very small (under 250k).
Gaim -- A multi-protocol instant messaging client for Linux, BSD, MacOS X, and Windows. It is compatible with AIM (Oscar and TOC protocols), ICQ, MSN Messenger, Yahoo, IRC, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, and Zephyr networks. Gaim is Open Source , under constant development, and releases are usually frequent.
Integrity Messenger -- Compatible with AIM, MSN and Yahoo Messenger (not so small, 2.6 megs).
MyJabber -- Compatible with AIM, MSN and Yahoo Messenger (large, 4.2 megs).
Instant Messaging Planet -- This is a sort of news and information site with the latest facts and figures on all instant messaging products.
